Removing Items From iCloud Photostream But They Come BACK!?

I am trying to remove all my photo stream as I have imported pictures into events that I wish to keep.

When I remove the entire photo stream on my iMac they then redownload the images from the iPad and iPhone.

This repeats non stop.

WTF?

To follow up as I just do not have time for this, I have had enough of Photostream until I can simply remove the items I wish from my Photostream on my iMac and have that spread to my other devices, as well as import images from the stream to events in iPhoto I shall disable Photostream indefinitely as it is just a substantial waste of what little free time I have attempting to get it to work correctly. And I feel it is far more efficient that I just do a manual import when I get home.

Do you by any chance have "Automatic upload" enabled in iPhoto? I could imagine the following happening to you if you do:

* You take photos on iPhone and iPad, which get added to Photo Stream

* iPhoto downloads photos from the Photo Stream since they're new

* You delete photos from Photo Stream in iPhoto

* You import the same photos through iTunes syncing from your iPhone and iPad

* iPhoto sees new photos coming in and adds them to Photo Stream, as per the description of Automatic Upload: "Send all new photos to Photo Stream"

If you have Automatic Upload enabled, go into iPhoto / Photo Stream settings and disable it. You can continue using your method of manually importing photos into iPhoto without them being re-added to the Photo Stream.

Alternatively, you can do what I do: simply stop manually importing photos from your i-devices. Those photos are being added to the Photo Stream anyway, so you can simply open Photo Stream in iPhoto and copy them into events from there. They're exactly the same files you'd get by importing anyway - full resolution, not double-compressed and with their metadata intact (at least with iPhone 4 and iPad 2).
