I have an old macbook pro that I want to pass to my kids for basic learning given they can't go to school now!

I have a newer macbook model that I use day to day and it holds my photos etc (I have iCloud enabled and copies of all the normal stuff are stored there). I have the same apple ID with admin rights on both models.

I have set the kids up with a kids (limited access / non admin) account on the OLD model. However, I need to free up space. The most obvious way to do that is to log-in using my apple ID and remove my photo library from it; however I was concerned that if I delete the photo library from the old mac that the deletions would snyc across to all my devices (including my newer mac) via iCloud.

1) Am I worried about nothing?
2) Is there a better way to hand off an old mac to a child? e.g. should i just remove my entire apple ID profile (and therefore photos) and set up a fresh new admin profile to administer the old mac whilst the kids use a kids profile?

any thoughts gratefully received!

you are correct to be thinking that iCloud syncs all the apps that are turned on to sync.
just deleting the Photo library is not the way to do what you want.
to test out a better way would be to first simply turn off iCloud for syncing of yr Photos on that mac the child will use.
do this by System Preferences/AppleID/Photos switch to off
and then (importantly) i would set up a child's login account on that mac so that no matter what your child did to it, it would only affect the child's accounts/associated apps.
(there doesn't seem to be any other way to prevent yr child from simply setting Photos back to where it does sync unless in fact you do just set up the child's own login on the machine)
you can of course also register an apple ID for them (if they are a certain age) and then you could even then set their apple ID to receive shared photos into their account's Photos.

Thanks. they are not of a certain age yet.

You've confirmed what my gut told me. Don't just delete the photos library from my account. I have turned off the sync function but I think I'll probably create a new admin account just for that mac and then remove my workhorse Apple ID from the computer.

Thank you for the reply!
