Removing Words on Desktop Icons

Is there a way to do it. Just discovered how to change icons (thanks to you folks) and I'd like to ditch the wording on the desktop icons but it won't leave an empty space.

Even if I could just change the coloring of the letters to black would be good enough.

There is, as far as I know, no way to leave it completly blank.
Have you tried a single Space?

It recognizes spaces as a name; I only have three on the desktop, so one is a single space, then double and then triple. Thanks again!!
