Rename paired bluetooth devices?

Is it possible (without jailbreak) to rename paired bluetooth devices such as headsets and hands free devices? I can't find any way to do it.

I had this problem with my/my wife's phones (same make/model). In Mac OS X, I was NOT able to rename them, but on the devices themselves I was able to change the device name. When paired, Snow Leopard recognized them as the same device (all settings remained as they originally were).

I don't know if you have the ability to change the device name on a headset, but I hope this helps!!
