Okay I've downloaded the 1.1.1 zip, because Im using it to downgrade from 1.1.2

I plug into iTunes, and when I click 'Options and Restore', it allows me to browse for the firmware. But "CHOOSE" is grayed, it does let me enter the Firmware folder, but all I see is a few other files.

Shouldnt I be able to Choose the firmware folder?

When I download the file, it's labled as a zip file, should I be renaming it first? If so, how?

delete the .zip so it ends with .ipsw

At what point can I rename it? All the links, take me right into the download, and once it's on desktop it's simply the "iPhone 1,1_1" folder. The firmware is in the folder, but how to access it?

You need to rename the .zip into .ipsw first in order to downgrade to 1.1.1 through iTunes.

Then you can use a program like independence to jailbreak. Independence has you extract the firmware .zip so you can jailbreak.

still looking for a solution, any advice?

If it is automatically unzipping, I'm assuming you're on a Mac.

You may do two things if you are on a mac lol, You can either go into safari prefs, and tell it to NOT decompress "safe" files upon download. Or you may just go into your trash barrel and the original .zip file that was decompressed into a folder should be in there.
