Rental Timelines Getting Pushed Past 30 Days

I like the new "Available for Rent" indicator, but I noticed that a few movies are getting availibility pushed far past Apple's promised "30 day after DVD release". I think I saw one the other day that said it would be available on 2/1!

I wish the movie industry would just embrace online rentals and hope that Apple will be persuasive enough to make it work better than it is now!

My wife and I have spent far more money on Apple TV rentals than we ever did at a video store because it's so easily accessible, but having to wait so long for all the rentals is a big bummer.

I share your feelings but think of how much you will enjoy the movie 2/1. I hold the notion that if I wanted to see a movie so bad I should see it in a theatre. But I prefer to wait until I can see it at home.

The last thing I will do is run out and rent it to get it early. That only supports the B&M model which I think is out dated. One day the movie industry will wake up and realize that if they want their money early they need to release movies early. That day will come if everyone is patient and waits for movies to be released via the method they want to view it.

I agree.

The reason I went from Napster to iTunes is because all the songs I wanted were available all of a sudden in the form I wanted them (on-demand, easy to find downloads that I could get onto my iPod).

The music industry got none of my money until they started providing a legal download model, but now I haven't downloaded a song via file sharing for the better part of a decade.

Now the movie industry is failing to embrace digital downloads in a similar was as the music industry did, enforcing overly agressive DRM restrictions, delaying the ability to rent for months, and not releasing all of their movies.

I've never used BitTorrent before (and won't ever), but when it offers a less restrictive, more readily available alternative for free, it's easy to understand how people might get driven to illegal downloads that the industry makes no money off of.

Since Apple offers rentals for the same price as Blockbuster, it's hard to imagine why there's any financial advantage to the movie industry being so big of a rental pain.

It's getting annoying, but, I can wait. Just wish some purchases were available in HD as well. It's coming, just a matter of when.

The 30-Day thing isn't bad, but, as already stated, some aren't going to be around till next year! That's just ridiculous, but I am not giving in to the movie companies and going go blockbuster. Digital Downloads are the future, time for them to embrace it.
