I have started using Music, TV etc apps in Catalina.

All my media is on an external drive called iTunes HD. Within that drive I have the directory structure carried over from when I was using iTunes on my old iMac i.e.
iTunes
/Media/Music
/Media/Movies
/Media/TV Shows
etc

Within the topmost iTunes folder there are also all the old XML and itl files from the old iTunes structure.

What my OCD was proposing ( I know I will regret it as everything appears to be working correctly currently ) is to rename the drive Media HD and then on the drive just have the Media folder and all its subfolders for Music, Movies etc.

What is the most straight forward way of achieving this without cocking up the working of all the apps - Music, TV, Podcasts and Books ?

Don't do it at all. Any changes you make to the media folder structure will not be recognized - the various media apps will be looking for things where they were, not where they currently are.

Too late.

Took all of 5 minutes. Removed the library files under Music and TV. Renamed the drive itself. Removed everything above the Media subfolder ( all the old iTunes stuff ) So now basically have Drive: Media HD > Media > Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks

Opened up each app in turn expecting at a minimum playlists would be lost. Music opened , all media just as it was inc playlists. Selecting music to play = plays immediately. Same with movies and TV shows in the TV app, same with Podcasts app and Audio books.

I'm actually amazed. Complete in 5 minutes, literally
