Hey gusy

I dropped my XS a few days ago and I went to get it replaced by an authorized repair center and they did an analysis for it. When I went back they said they can replace the screen but found out that there might be something wrong with the battery and that I should have it replaced too, it still works fine but they cant say for how long it will be like this.
The thing is, I'm in a bit of a financial struggle at the moment and cannot simply afford that much money if it's not necessary.
They cannot say whether the dammage is from the drop or from me having the phone on the charge overnight or whatever the case may be.

I have the phone for 1 year and have not experienced any issues with it, It still worked fine even with broken screen except for the top half of the screen so that's why I went and got it fixed.

Do you think it isn't that big of a deal? My Macbook had the "replace battery" advice thingy for a year and was still fine. Should I try to hold out for a few months or is this something that really needs to be fixed. Would it still fall under warranty?

Any advice would be welcome.

If they replace it now or later, it’ll cost the same, so there’s no benefit in replacing it now. Since money is tight, just wait until the battery fails and then replace it.
The standard free iPhone warranty from Apple for all iPhones is one year.

First off, thank you for your reply. This is also what I thought I could do. However the comment after the analysis says "the battery might swell in the future because it looks less solid and deformed". Is there any risk of hazard such as fire or exploding? I am okay with holding on until it dies to save up some money first, however I don't want to walk around with a ticking time bomb. Should this be fine?

My old iPhone 5 battery started to swell and push the screen off. That’s when I replaced it.
If yours swells it’ll do the same thing - start pushing on the screen. You’ll see the deformation. I waited a long time - too long, and there was a gap between the body and screen.

Just keep an eye on the screen, examining it for flatness. If you notice it starting to bow out at all one day - replace the battery.
Spontaneously igniting iPhone batteries are extremely rare.

My suggestion of course comes without any authority or backing, so take my advice for what it is.

If you are planning on keeping your XS for awhile, I advise you if possible to replace the battery now especially if it appears deformed. A swelling battery can lead to many other problems, like distorting the screen and possible overheating the phone.

Sometimes we try to save money by putting things off and wind up spending more money in the long run. Your choice.
