Good afternoon,

I have an original Apple Watch I purchased in 2015. Stainless steel. I love it. Not only do I use it everyday but it helped me the last year and a half with my cancer.

I finally got the green light from my doctor to resume all physical activity. I took my watch for a hike but when I returned home, the screen stoped working and its not charging. Apple is charging me $249 to repair it. I'm not sure if I should proceed with the repair or purchase a new apple watch (with the event going on tomorrow) Is there a cheaper way to repair my broken watch? Is it worth repairing since its a stainless steel model?

Thanks for your input.

IMO I’d wait to see what Apple announces on Wednesday. Then from there if the Series 4 isn’t what you’re looking for (features, price, etc), then maybe get it repaired. Also, I’d imagine the original Apple Watch will be pretty sluggish with the release of watchOS 5.

I think there are 2 options that is better than $249 repairing cost.

1. Buying a new S4. No brainer but you have to wait. And it'll be better if you can wait.
2. Buying 2nd hand S3 which will be pretty cheap after S4 is released. You also have to wait.

After getting a new watch, you could try to find unauthorised repair shop that can do it for less if you can find one.

There is no way I would pay $250 for the first GEN Apple Watch to be repaired, that’s going to cost you more than the Apple Watch is even worth itself. I would either opt for a Series 3 or a Series 3 refurbished for a cheaper price through Apple with a one year warranty, unless you’re more anticipating of seeing what the Series 4 comes Wednesday.

This — and only this. The day after tomorrow the Series 3 will plummet in price. You can take your chance or just go for the Series 4 it’s a worthy upgrade coming from a Series 4 even if all rumors are wrong and and it’s just a modest step up from a Series 3.
