Repair Permissions always has permissions to repair. Will never clear. Help.

Hi all,

I just recently added a hard drive to my Powermac G5 and in the process moved my boot drive from slot 1 to slot 0. The new (non boot drive) is in slot 1.

The computer booted and is running fine, but when I repair permissions it always finds and repairs the same things. Even when I run it back to back. Does this have something to do with my moving the boot drive?

Below is some of the repair permissions data (had to truncate do to maximum message length). It is the same every time. I also tried repairing from the install CD. When I do this it will repair them and then I run it again and it is clear. However when I boot up again same problem.

No - OS X could care less which cable it's on.

No offence but if you actually read what its saying, its just informing you that on that particular file special permissions are being used.

I get the exact same output when I repair permissions on my G4 Mac mini.

It's normal. Maybe it'll go away with a future OS X update, maybe it won't.

I'm getting it on my new Intel iMac too, so I guess it had nothing to do with the HDD change I made. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully Apple will fix.

Do not worry. There's no need to repiar permissions anyway, so do not bother.

It's one of those things people think works wonders, when in fact theres a huge chance (yes, I have run many UNIX servers and never had a problem with permissions) that there will never be any problems with permissions. It's one of these myths that surrounds the Mac community. You get them for Windows also.
