Here is my question: Does anyone know how I could repair a HFS+ partition from a windows machine? If you want to read the rest, it just outlines my situation. Thanks for any help.

I reformatted my external drive to HFS+ using macdrive. I did this because I will be getting a powerbook soon and will be leaving my windows machine. Anyway, my computer froze a couple of times while reading from the external drive (a week after moving all of my music over to the new file system).

The next day I noticed 30GB of music missing. There are no artists after "The Melodians" anymore in my music folder. When I view the properties of the music folder it shows around 100GB where it used to say 130GB. When I view the space of the drive as a whole, the 30gigs are taking up space, but I can't find them anywhere - I added up the sizes of all the folders and the shown free space and the 30gigs of music aren't accounted for.

PC's can do a thing with HFS+ -- unless you have 3rd party software like MacOpener. Even then, I would put your chances of doing more damage by futzing with it on the PC.

How many files/folders were in that Music folder? Earlier Mac OS's had a problem with ths -- under OS 9 I think it was
" Maximum number of files/folders in a folder 32,767"

If you can't get access to a Mac, you might try using one of those live CD Linux distributions. A least some support HFS+, and include an fsck.hfsplus futility.

Anyone else have any ideas? I don't want to erase a partition to install another OS. It seems like it will be a simple fix if I can find a program..
