Repairing Permissions

I realise this is a newb question, however, I just cannot remember how to do it.

How do I Repair Permissions? I had a window today saying OS X quit unexpectedly. Im guessing that repairng the permissions may prevent that?

Also, has anyone found that their MacBook is slowing down at all? Specifically with 1GB of RAM installed.

Open Disk Utility in Applications > Utilities and select your MacBook's hard drive, click the First Aid tab and click "Repair Permissions".
