I just bought an AppleTV 3 to replace a 1st gen ATV. I have a number of videos (all SD, no HD) that were encoded using the Handbrake AppleTV preset. Is there any reason I should need to re-encode these for ATV3? I took a quick look at a handful of videos and they looked fine. However, I just wanted to make sure there won't be any issues playing these on the ATV 3.

They will all play just fine on the "3". The only reason to re-encode would be if your source is at higher resolution than the "1" can handle, and you want to get the most out of the "3". If your source was DVD there's no need; if your source was Blu Ray, you can re-encode to 1080p if you wish.

Thanks guys! I've been busy the last few days, so didn't see your responses until this morning.

I've watched a couple of movies on the ATV3 and everything "seemed" fine. I feel better knowing no issues will pop up.
