Replaced screen, now battery not working

A friend of mine dropped his iPhone and shattered his screen. We ordered a new screen and I've installed it. At first the phone would turn on, tell me there was no SIM card in it, and then give me the option to turn the phone off or to "cancel." Unfortunately, I didn't install something right and the touch controls wouldn't work even though the screen was on. Anyways, I believe I have fixed that problem, but now I can't test it because the battery is completely drained and when I try to turn it on it gives me the "need charging" symbol. When I plug the phone in nothing happens. It won't charge.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this, or what I should do?

I would...

First open the phone back up, and make sure that all connections are secure, and tight.
Secondly, break down and cry because it sounds as though something els has failed.

Everything is tight. The back is still open and I've checked and rechecked everything to make sure nothing is coming lose. This is getting really frustrating.

The phone doesn't even recognize when it's plugged in. The computer doesn't recognize the phone either.

With the screen replaced, does the phone look like normal, as if the glass never broke? you could always just put it back together and take it to Apple if you think they wont notice the screen replacement. iF they dont and the phone wont let you charge it im sure they will replace it.

The phone looks normal, however...I'm in Canada. It's really frustrating because I took my time and was really careful when putting the new screen on. I'm wondering if something happened to the wires on the motherboard, since it's attached to the battery...and the motherboard is the only component in the whole phone that has any wires going to the battery, so the electricity must pass through it first when the phone is charging.
