Got my replacement 2012 Mac Mini (2.6GHz, 16GB, 1TB Fusion) this evening after returning the original for display problems (snow) and random rebooting.

Put in the new RAM, plugged in the monitor, plugged in the unit, turned it on. It goes directly to the screen showing the diagram for "turn on your trackpad or mouse". I turn on my trackpad and keyboard, but the computer never connects to either.

I call Apple. Do various reboots and change the batteries. Still no connection to the unit. I gave away my USB keyboard and mouse with my iMac. Apple says they can't do anything until I have a USB keyboard.

Want to know the worst thing? Whereas it took a day or two for the snow screen to show itself with my original Mini, this time around I got snow within the first two minutes.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

"Anyone have any bright ideas?"

I've got one, but it won't help you.

Why not design a "dual-powered" keyboard -- one that has batteries/bluetooth, but also can be plugged in via USB in an emergency?

Or design the keyboard to include a small charger, so that the user could use rechargeable batteries. Thus, the keyboard could be used in bluetooth mode, and when the batteries ran low, the user could plug it in, continue to use it, and re-charge the batteries at the same time?

Could this be done for something like the magic trackpad, as well?

Those are my "bright ideas"...

This is why I always have an extra mouse & I always have an extra Apple USB Aluminum keyboard, in addition to my Apple Trackpad & Apple Wireless keyboard.... You can't go wrong with 2 keyboards as long as one of them are a USB keyboard, and have an extra mouse or Trackpad.......
