My drive in my early 2008 mac pro is officially dying on it's arse.
First it started claiming dvds were damaged, but they were perfectly intact.
Then it started having issues burning dvds, even at 2x! Just to prove a point, my 2005 iBook could burn exactly the same file on the same brand of dvds at 2x perfectly fine.
Today was the final straw with it refusing to read any kind of blank media.

Does the early 2008 model use IDE or SATA for it's dvd drives?

Any suggestions for a half-decent DVD-RW?

I'm not looking to spend a great deal of money, maybe £30 max.

Thanks in advance!

Optical drive? Haven't you been paying attention to all those folks on MacRumors that say there is no need for an optical drive?
And if you do need one they say to buy an external one.
