Any suggestions on a replacement HD for my 2007 iMac? Mine bit it 10 days after the 3 yr ext. warranty expired. Looks like doing it myself is doable, but if I'm going to crack it open, I'd like to replace it with a good one. I don't do anything fancy, but I love speed.
Thanks!

As it's only 10 days, I would call to Apple and ask them to repair it.

What capacity would you like to have? Caviar Blue is decent but tops out at 1TB

Apple to the Rescue!

So I took my iMac to the "genius bar" where the tech looked at it and, after I told him that it had failed the surface scan, he said Apple would replace the HD with a better one for no charge. Sweet

Would they have done it if your warranty had been expired for more than 10 days? Did you even tell them about your warranty? Thanks in advance!

Pleased

Thanks Hellhammer, I figured it wouldn't be worth going in with the warranty expired, but I was wrong. @Orange - The warranty was actually 15 days past the end-date, and yes, I did mention it because I was pi___ed off. I said "I've always heard those stories about people buying extended warranties, then having the product fail, but not from Apple". The tech simply said, "Apple doesn't work that way", and he put their money where his mouth was! That's why we have two iTouch's, an iMac, and our first eMac. Customer satisfaction: a rare, but wonderful feeling! :apple:
