Replacement i7 iMac Not working

It's been rumored that those who purchased new computers and have requested subsequent repalcements were being shipped refurbished iMacs. I'd look into whether the computer was actually a "new" repalcement and not a returned and refurb'ed computer. You are afterall sending THEM a used computer, so it's no surprise that they will send you one just as "new."
Apple has had a tremendous amount of returns and these units are not being thrown in the garbage. They are most likely being resold as refurbished. The yellow tint thing is so arbitrary depending on who you ask, that some of the returns qualify as within company specs or as good as new. Keep in mind that when you return a defective iMac, they are sending you back out one that is just as "new" or "used," depending on how you look at it. Also suspect is the fact that many people have returned/replaced numerous times only to continually receive ANOTHER defective screen. At this point, it is clear that they ALL have some degree of yellow tint. It is inherent in the design. Apple will placate concerned customers by allowing them to an extent to choose and keep a machine they find "acceptable."

P.S. It might be best to request a refund and wait for the next revision. Maybe things will be better. Also, some have stated that the most recent iMacs were coming from the Czech Republic instead of Shanghi. Maybe the change in factory location will improve the quality of the iMacs.

Well Apple have offered to exchange it for Mac Pro and a 24' screen.
Not to sure about getting a mac proI don't know how different they are to the iMacs.
For free of charge or do you have to pay the difference? Mac Pros are amazing but there is new one just around corner and current ones are performance wise same as iMacs (excluding 8-core)

If they are offering to match GPUs it is likely worth it for the slight decrease in screen size.

So a Mac Pro with the ATI card and similar memory and drive should make you happy if you can live with the 24" screen.
Edit: simply being able to upgrade the graphics cards, the HD and optical drive, and easily toss in 3 HDs or another optical without buying a new machine are worth it. As does upgrading the display without chucking the computer.
aka, basically the Tower versus All-in-One debate. definitely worth it to switch to Tower Fee free even if you have to pay for the GPU update.
That setup would be +3000$! I doubt they offered it for free, more likely gave OP an option. Apple usually offers something similar in cost, not 50% more expensive for free of charge
They've done it before, somebody was complaining awhile ago in a similar situation after getting a bump from a iBook to a PowerBook + iPod that the repair for a dead pixel on the latest non-perfect decent spec PowerBook was resulting in Apple keeping the PowerBook and refunding the cost of the iBook. How dare Apple cheat the guy and take back all the free upgrades nearing that 50% mark.
People have complained that their offers spec wise was a downgrade in certain areas like memory, HD, and GPU to get boosts in those areas.
That's illegal for Apple to do, you're starting to go a bit far with this crap.
They offered the Mac Pro as a free upgrade, and they are letting me pick it up from my local apple store on 28th.
Likely a base model with the Nvidia GT 120, which is speed tested above.
Memory and HD likely close enough 25% less memory and a drop of a third on the HD. But gaining expandability.
The ATI card if you play games will set you back $350 later, or less if you can ask Apple if they can swap the card at the time of swap for BTO price.

Find out if you have to take the Mac Pro on the 28th. See if you can wait for the refreshed Mac Pro's to come out.
A buddy of mine had a G5 iMac that died for the 4th or 5th time last year and Apple gave him a brand new Aluminum iMac. He decided to wait until the iMac was refreshed and then took the offer.
If Apple will let you wait for the refresh, you should.

Mac Pro + 24" ACD for 2000$ sounds good, seeing that it's +3000$. GT 120 is okay for games but sure the ATI card is better. I wish I got one!
It's easy to tell from the serial number whether it is a refurb or not. This isn't really a matter for "rumors". People are either getting reburbs or not.
I had to get three replacements to get a good one and none were refurbs. This was Jan through early March I think.
Apple have just rang back to say that i can't pick the mac pro up from the local apple store, and its going to take 5 days to order.
So i'am now getting a 27' i7 iMac with 8GB Ram - 2x4GB, 2TB Serial ATA Drive.
Sounds good.

I agree and it seems everyone wants to invent a conspiracy story because they got a bad iMac.
Even though we hear all these bad new threads, there is the majority that are working perfectly! I guess I was lucky but mine is working with out flaw!
Hearing "some" say they got five replacements and they all had a problems makes me wonder about the credibility/pickyness of the owners! It is simply hard to believe as I have purchased a imac 24, imac 27, MBPro and WiFi and 3G ipads and all have worked perfectly

When did you order your initial iMac?
This is just more reason to wait to buy the minor spec bump iMac refresh that is (hopefully) coming in June/July

hm at least you had everytime a new problem to deal with , so you dont get bored
i would consider to ask if you can have something else from apple get a mini and a cinema display ..less known faults with them
The first one i bought was the 13' mac book pro, the 2nd was the 21.5' iMac which i added the extra £50, the 3rd was upgraded by apple to the 21.5' £1225 for free, the 4th was the same apart from apple adding extra 4gb ram, then apple upgraded the 5th one to a 27' i7 4gb ram and 1tb hard drive.
The one thats on the way out is 27' i7 with 8gb Ram (x2 4gb sticks) and 2tb hard drive plus i can keep the 4gb ram i was ready given.
If there is any problems with this one i'am going to be going for the Mac Pro and the 24' screen.

Most replacement units are refurbished. I can tell that mine definitely was, because it had a piece of packaging stuck underneath the glass cover. Even the repair guy agreed.
Apple basically get these machines back, run some tests, make sure they run 'okay' and then they ship em right to you. Mine came from China, even took forever to get here, and yet I'm 100% sure it's refurbished.
But you know what, that's fine by me. I've been slowly squeezing money out of them. First I got a HDD replacement, then a new logic board.
Of course, there is no guarantee that even those parts are new, but they should work flawlessly.
People need to stop letting Apple get away with this crap. It's about time some major news site writes an article on this.
The only way to get a NEW replacement is if the product itself hasn't been out longer than 3 days. They would simply not have enough returns to ship out to other people as replacements, so they'd have to send new ones.
