Any ideas on where to get one? I have checked all the usual sites and the price is quite steep. It can be used as long as it works. I have a 17 inch Intel core duo 1.83ghz. The drive went bad. It is my little girls mac and I am not sure how much longer she can continue to play her Dora games on my mbp. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

hello as i own the same iMac , and my superdrive acts now only like a cd player and only sometimes a dvd player for unknown reasons , i did not want to open the iMac up again and did the sensible thing and bought one of those

cheaper then a internal and just plugs in the usb port and is white so matching the iMac and its a top loader and fits exactly on the iMacs foot
bought it on ebay and it did cost me a third of the cheapest internal dvdrw

I have one of those, but would really like to replace the internal one. I have been inside the imac before, so I'm not really scared of that, just want to get it back to newish.

as i am not a big fan of buying things on ebay marked as "works with macs but we have not tested it " there are i an sure online shops in your part of the world that have specialised in Mac's and spares for them

like this one here in the uk http://www.thebookyard.com/
they deliver worldwide and i never got rubbish or non working parts from them, they sell new and used but tested parts and offer warranty
