So my ex broke into my residence and literally carved an x into the keyboard with a knife and then smashed the mouse that I got with my Mac Pro. Thanksfully she was smart enough not to do any damage to my Mac. I looked online and there I don't see anywhere I can purchase a replacement keyboard or Magic Mouse that are in the Mac Pros layout? And for those of you that will ask yes the police did come and file charges for breaking and entering as well criminal damaging.

What is different about the keyboard and Magic Mouse that comes with the new Mac Pro? And why can't you order replacements direct from Apple?

its a different color scheme it's most for aesthetics.

Apple sells dark keyboards and magic mice in the color scheme of the iMac Pro not of the Mac Pro 7,1
Functionally they are equivalent, it's just a slightly different color scheme.

So, your ex might be in for the cost of a Mac Pro just to get the keyboard that goes with it if you go for a retail solution.

I would contact Apple though: go to an Apple store with the keyboard and ask what it costs to replace it.
Apple sometimes has replacement procedures that cost less than what you might expect, just explain it well and if the genius takes pity on you, those in the back can make things happen sometimes.
Don't expect them to have the 7,1 keyboard in stock though.

There's a couple on eBay. Big bux though:

and

I'm not using mine, but I'm holding on to them.

Ebay is just... silly. The Mac Pro keyboard is a new permutation of colors which is only available with the Mac Pro. Same as the iMac Pro keyboard was upon release, but now you can just buy it. If you need to replace Mac Pro keyboard, call Apple Support, tell them your keyboard is trashed, give them serial # of computer, and they will let you buy a new one (without wanting $500 for it).

At least... in theory. With the whole supply chain being a complete mess right now, you may run into some problems. At the end of the day, it's not actually urgent and pretty much any keyboard will work with it while you wait for the world ending, to move onwards to world stabilizing post-Coronavirus.

I bought the Logitech MX keyboard - it has backlit keys (quite good) and is pretty solid, also the keys are better than the Apple kind, easier to type for me, less typos. Key layout is very Mac like. Wasn't sure I would like it but I do. About $99 on Amazon.

Sorry for the crazy ex!

Theoretically, one could buy both the silver and space grey magic keyboard, pop the caps and put the dark keys on the silver keyboard. That's a $278 USD setback though...

I'm pretty sure if you take them into an Apple store with your receipt, tell your story, they will let you buy a set from back of the store where they'll have some extras. You might get lucky, they might like your story enough to comp you.

Anybody identify any third party keyboards that match the aesthetic? Not a fan of the apple keyboard, but also don’t necessarily want to replace it with a boring black one.

^^^^

But, personally I use a Logitech G910 along with a Logitech Master MX Mouse.

I am not a gamer, but I use the "G" keys on my keyboard and backlighting is essential for me.

We bought several Matias keyboards to replace the original wired Apple keyboard and although they look pretty similar the haptics are not the same at all.

We ended up repairing the Apple ones and / or buying refurbished ones.

If it’s just for optics you’ll get away with it but it’s definitely not the same quality.

I have not tried the matias wireless keyboards but I’d expect the quality to be the same. (Okay, but not good)

Btw, if you plug the lightening cable in the Apple wireless keyboard it will operate like a wired usb keyboard.
I know but then I'll need two USB ports (Keyboard + Mighty Mouse) and the keys are a little different as well.

I need it for audio editing so the mighty mouse is more comfortable (ergonomic) for my needs.

Also, our machines are inside a machine room so I need to extend everything. I don't know if the USB/Lightning connection is reliable via USB/Cat extender. But I think I should try it because the old keyboard is not coming back any time soon. :)

Sorry for OT..

I bought Matias wireless keyboard. Definitely NOT as good a quality as Apple's magic keyboard. Some of the keys, I have to press hard to register.

If you want a good wireless keyboard, Matias is definitely NOT it. I would buy LogiTech or preferably Apple Magic Keyboard.

Live and learn as they say. That was waste of money, IMHO, to buy Matias.

Which switches do you use on the G910? I haven't been using a mechanical keyboard for 20 years, and I am very, very used to the scissor switches of the Magic Keyboard. What switch can you recommend in this case, if I was to stray from the Magic Keyboard into mechanical land and don't want to feel alienated?

^^^^It has ROMER-G Switches.

My last keyboard was a Logitech G710+ that had Cherry MX Brown switches. I like the Romer-G better.
