Hello all,
My 20" Alum iMac had a problem with the graphics's card overheating. I was getting readings on the card of about 174 F. The computer was randomly shutting down or sometimes the app would freeze.
Apple care schedule me for a appointment this past Tuesday. The Genius told me that more than likely it was a bad GPU or a not properly seated heat sink. So he said he would order a new card.
The hole experience was positive until they told me that it would take 5 - 7 days to get the computer back. To me this sounded like it was to long. The Genius then recommended Pro Care and told me that they guarantee a 24 hour turnaround on repairs. He Basically told me that Having pro care bumps me up to the top of the line when it comes time to repair the computer.
Pro care aside i think Apple needs to better their repair turn around. i know they cant stock parts in every apple store but it should not take this long to do a simple replacement of a GPU.
When i question the fact that this was to long of a wait for the kind of repair, i was told that they had to run some testing to accurately know what was wrong. And that this testing could take up to 3 days.
Im going to call the store tomorrow and find out what is the status and see if they are done with the testing phase hopefully the card was order already and i will have my computer back soon.
