Replacing 2005 G5iMac (10.4.11) by early 2008 iMac (ML): best migration strategy?

I have an old G5iMac from 2005 (A1058) running 10.4.11 that is going to be replaced by a less old early 2008 iMac (A1224) on which i want to install Mountain Lion. It's not running any other software than the Apple software it came with, pictures and videos are on an external disk.
What would be the best strategy to go about and migrate stuff to the newer iMac?

Since you're going from PowerPC to Intel, just get all your data on the external drive. If you have an iPhoto library, copy that to the external drive. Same for the iTunes library.

And then copy the iTunes and iPhoto library to the system disk on the new iMac.

Note: You would need to be running 10.5.8 for Migration Assistant to work.

I'd also advocate just dragging and dropping what you want to an external HD at this point, I think it'd be the cleanest option.
