I am debating on replacing my iMac with a newer model. I would like to stick with the 27" iMac, but thinking I might be better off to wait another 6 months to year until the M1 chipset is in the higher end iMacs. I know that I can not get an "official" upgrade to the new OS with my current iMac, but was wondering what other people in the same situation were planning.

Similar situation here, late 2014 iMac 27". I'm waiting to see what Apple announces next year. No issues with my current iMac and no reason to make a decision sooner. I don't particularly need the power of the new M1 but I want compatibility with future OS, the ability to take advantage of my different Apple devices talking to each other, etc.

If I didn't prefer the larger monitor size, then I'd be perfectly happy with the iMac 24", but I like the bigger display. And I may want to get more memory than the 16GB max currently available with the 24" iMac, since I won't be able to upgrade myself later.

I fully expect that it will be worth the wait!

This is exactly where I stand, and with them making some features only M1 compatible I think it would be a waste to buy an intel one now. Hopefully it is worth the wait. I will say I have looked at Mac Mini's to pass the time LOL
