Hey guys, so up until now, my iMac has been pretty much perfect.
Until about a week ago..

So first of all, I wanna start off by saying, I went to the Apple Store about a month ago to get my HDD replaced in my 27" because the Seagate I had was REALLY loud.
So they did that, and I go it back, with plenty of problems.

First of all, when I wake it from sleep, the screen is yellow for about a minute or so and then goes to normal.

The fans are getting louder, and the iMac itself is vibrating, constantly. It even shakes my desk.

There is some kind of LED leak on the side, because when I'm viewing a black background, there is this one spot that's REALLY white at all times. No matter what angle I look from.

And yes, the new HDD is basically just as loud as the old one.

Also, I know this can't be proven, but when I got my iMac back from the Apple store, it has a little TINY dent on the bottom of the screen (by the speakers) and also the bottom of my stand has a big scratch on it.

I called Apple Care and told them about all this, and mentioned that I can't really give them my computer for another week, because I need it on a daily bases. The guy was really nice, and told me to talk to the store manager, which I did, and she said that she wants her 'team' to take a look at it, and see what they can do.

Also the guy noted that if the manager said no, I should call Apple Care back and talked to customer relations.

Anyway, I need to get this machine replaced, for those of you who have gotten theirs replaced, what process did you have to go through, and how long did it take?

I've experienced the very noisy Seagate 1T drive. Awful.
Interestingly though, I know two people with the Seagate 500gb drive (in the 21.5" iMac) and it is silent in operation. I've seen the machines myself and can vouch for that.
Anyway, back to your service question, I'd advise you to not accept anything the store manager says if it seems unreasonable to you. The Customer Relations department at Apple is the place to go if you want things to get done and I have ALWAYS had outstanding service from them.

ugh that sucks man.. i know how you feel thou, it seems like it becomes like a snow ball effect.

The best thing to do it's talk with apple over the phone and tell them you've had a terrible experience and explain everything calmed.

I've had problems with 2 refurb imacs. Both times they have given me a $75 for the inconvenience and they have given me a free Next day delivery.. as soon as you ship your imac back to them and they scan your box confirming that you shipped it they will release your replacement. Unless it was a custom order of course.

Both times i've shipped my imacs around 2 pm and receive the replacement the next day around 5pm so it's not a bad thing at all.

Best of luck, my imac has a WD hdd btw, it's extremely quiet.. never heard it before, my MyBook on the other hand it's loud as hell lol.. it really doesn't bother me thou..

Both times that i've gone to the apple store i've left kinda disappointed, but apple over the phone seems to be much better.

I got my first 27" December 31st.

My first iMac was HORRIBLY LOUD from the Hard Drive and the Optical Drive.

I called and had Apple send me a replacement unit. The second one which I still have is quieter. I've never had any of the other problems that everyone else experienced. I told them I can't be without mine as well because I go to school online. They should be able to take care of you. Call back and ask someone in the department to send you to Corporate Customer Care Administration or to Retentions. They were very nice and looked at the history and were able to send me out a replacement and all I had to do was ship back my old one within 30 days.

Thanks for replying everyone :)

I called AppleCare back today, and I got transferred to one of the senior representatives (I think that' what it was). He was very nice, asked me to explain everything to him, and even provided me with his extension number and his email address. He also asked me to send him a few pictures of my screen.

I sent him one pictures with a black background, he said that there was definitely something wrong with the screen, and tomorrow he wants me to send him one with a gray background.

He also mentioned that since I can't really give the Apple store my computer for another week, he would send someone out to come to my house and fix it on sight. Which seems like okay deal.
He also mentioned that if they can't fix it, he would send out a replacement right away.

See!

That is outstanding news! I bet you'll have to get a new mac. I'd love to know what they guy says when he comes and sees this!

Nate

Well, it seems like it'll be new, even if they don't replace it.
Since they need to change out the screen, the fans (which I think might be attached to the motherboard), it looks like they'd need to basically build a new computer, so hopefully they'll just replace it, but either way is fine by me.

Yeah I can't tell you how much crap they actually replaced in my 24" then decided to give me 27".

They replaced like 3 hard drives, Power Supply and all cables. They replaced the logic board and video card and replaced the LCD Panel and I still had LCD burn in problems!

So hopefully they will have learned from mine and just give you a brand spankin new one!HAHA

Well, apparently they're sending someone out to fix it on sight, although I think I'll bring up the replacement just one more time, since I don't see a point in replacing everything in my computer, but not giving me a new one. That seems a bit dumb.
It would save them sometime, and also save mine, and I'd be a lot happier knowing that I have a new working machine.
