I would like to replace my internal hard drive. I know how to mechanically do it but how do I get my data that is backed up with time machine on the new drive. Do I need to reinstall Leopard and then use time machine to back up?

Do a fresh install, once the install is finished it will ask if you want to transfer settings from another computer or from a time machine backup. Just choose the time machine option.
