I am thinking about taking my imac 17" (core duo model) to an apple store to upgrade my HDD (160GB) to maybe 320GB or 500GB, because it does not seem easy enough for myself to do the mechanics.

anyone has any experience/knowledge how much apple store will charge? (new drive and labor)

thanks a lot!

A lot. I don't know exact figures, but I do know that the white flat iMac is a real bitch to get into. You'd probably be better off, monetarily, just buying an external harddrive, though it'll add to desk-clutter.

This is further evidence that Apple needs a computer that can be easily upgraded by users. A tray-loader HDD in an iMac would be glorious!
