Dear MacRumors!

How are you guys doing!?

Im getting a MacBookPro =) My Viao died so i get to swap it out for a MBP!! =)

Well I would like to upgrade the ram and hard drive

I would like say 160 gb with the faster rpm

and a 4gb (2x2gb)

so which company do you recommend for hard drive, because i did searches and really dont know which ones fit the macbook pro

so help me out guys!

THANK YOU!

MO!

You might find that its worth getting the bigger drive from apple to begin with. Unfortunately, the HD isn't "user replaceable" on the pro and you'll get varying responses as to the safety of your warranty after a self-replacement job.

RAM on the other hand is definitely better from a 3rd party. I purchased from OWC recently and was happy.

Thanks guys!

Its a stock 160 gb drive. I will def be getting the 4gb

Is it worth going to the faster drive for 200 bucks and is it safe and workable if I let someone like best buy take care of putting it in?

Thanks guys!

I assume you're talking about their Geek Squad guys. I personally wouldn't trust them to take apart a shiny new MacBook Pro as far as I could throw 'em. If the multitudes of articles and news reports about their unreliability and weird methods (super glue to hold stuff in, etc)...I really wouldn't trust them to swap out the drive without harming the hardware.

If you don't have a local techie friend, I'd recommend trying it yourself (with steady hands and extreme caution) using one of the many step-by-step guides you can find. After all, all it really is in essence is removing a few screws and swapping some cables. Don't be intimidated.

But no, I wouldn't trust Worst Buy. Not at all.
