Hello everyone!

At this moment I have a 2017 m3 12" Macbook and a 10.5" iPad Pro, which was replaced under warranty (because the famous white spot).
I was thinking on selling these two devices because they somewhat overlap due to the screen size (being the Macbook the less used), and declutter my IT devices.

I considered two options:
  1. iPad Pro 12.9": However maybe an iPad Pro can't be used as the only/main computer....(despite I love iPad OS)
  2. M1 MacBook (Air or Pro), because these devices give me the flexibility of running iPad and desktop apps

Note: my usage is lightweight (productivity, some photo editing, web ...).

iPad Pro 12.9 + smart keyboard is more expensive than a base M1 MacBook air and about the same price of a M1 Mackboo Pro.

What are your thoughts?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I would go for the MacBook Air.

If later on you miss your iPad, you can always get one of the new ipads, be it the iPad Air or a new IPP (or just buy an used ipp or base iPad)

I just traded my iPad Pro and 2019 air on the new m1 air. For my needs 2 devices don’t make sense if I can run iPad apps and have iPad battery life all in a MacBook Air. I was going to go pro but I appreciate the fan-less design as long as it runs Microsoft office including MS Teams video chat without getting too hot. The iPad handles this so I’m hopeful.

Yes, the fanless design of the M1 Air, and the ability of running iOS apps is tempting.

I use an iPad Pro 12.9 and a Mac Mini, (not m1 yet obvs). This way the iPad covers almost everything I need, but have the power of the mini when I need. I use it via Jump Desktop, so its a very very flexible system.

Pencil? And, bed use. Air sucks as a bedtime reading device. I will say this about smart or folio keyboards, Magic Keyboard (Bluetooth) much better and cheaper.

Ditch both, get a Gen 8 iPad and M1 MBA. Back to square one. ?

Well, I’ve sold the MacBook and iPad Pro 10.5”, now
I’m feeling naked

I’m almost jumping on a base M1 air, but feel that I will miss to have a tablet...

Let’s see .... no regrets!

So Calif
You will love the M1 MBA.
It will run circles around the 12" rMB.

I have both 2015 and 2017 12" rMB but it's my travel and bedside use as the fanless design and lightest weight was my intentional draw.

The M1 MBA will be the same as your 12" but much faster - it will just amaze you.
