I'm so pissed my 2010 Apple 30" ACD died earlier this month. My original plan was to wait until next year and replace my nMP and monitor at the same time but that isn't going to happen.

Can anyone tell me whether my nMP with dual D500 video cards can drive Dell's latest 8K monitor (UP3218K)?

I know there's a rumor that next year Apple will come out with its own 8K monitor along with a revamped MacPro but unfortunately I don't have the luxury of waiting that long unless someone can suggest a cheap ~30" ACD replacement to tide me over...suggestions?

I bought an extra one that I found for cheap, just in case mine goes out. Sorry, doesn’t help you.

It looks like you can get them on eBay for about $340.

Did you see about getting the ACD repaired?

Otherwise, the 8k monitor has about 9x the pixels to move around than the ACD. I doubt any graphics card available today would perform at a very high level with it.

Like pertusis1 mentioned, I'd just get a used 30" off fleaBay or CL.

Or get an Apple 27" from same sources.

Although my 30" ACD is still holding up, it has some "memory" of recent images, and it's dimming especially around the periphery. I had bought an Apple 27" and although it's beautiful and bright, I do miss the large screen real estate of the 30", so I still use my 30" as my primary display.

My 30" ACD had been showing signs of burn-in images, very faintly if you had a single color screen up, and I got it to go away by changing to a 100% pure white screen background for a day, then running a pure black screen background for a while.

I'm dreading the day this one dies, myself... but I suppose there are plenty of choices in monitors out there.
This is a Dell version:

Michael,

I feel for you. I still have my original 30" ACD. Every one once in a while, the monitor wakes up a tiny bit slower than usual and for that 0.6 seconds, I wonder...is this it? Please don't die. I need you to hold on until Apple releases the next MacPro and new monitor.

Thankfully, it's still kicking. I see no signs of burn-in. I purchased it brand new in 2007 or 2008. I love this monitor so much. For what it's worth, I believe it's lasted this long because it's been plugged into an APC power filter since day 01.

I wish you the best on a replacement.

If I were you, I won’t go for the 8K screen.

The nMP can’t even stabely drive the 5k Display. So, I won’t expect it can properly drive a 8K Display. I won’t doubt the GPU’s ability, display 2D is just a simple job, a D700 can drive 6x 4k Display at the same time. It should not be too hard for a D500 to drive a single 8K Display. However, software is the issue.

eBay or Craigslist if you're in a good metro area. I got rid of my 30 then got a 20. I don't do video editing or anything like that so it was just too much. might get a second 20. so cheap on CL.

Did you replace your ACD? If so, with what?

I’ve got a pair of Samsung S32D850Ts now, they’re the same resolution as a 30ACD, but 32in. Not IPS, but the PVA panel has really impressed me, wide viewing angle and excellent color reproduction. I paid $380 for the first one, and caught a sale for $330 for the second one, both off Amazon.

Are you sure they're the same resolution? The 30" ACD is 1600, the one you're talking about is 1440, no?

Whoops. Samsung is 16:9 while the old ACD is 16:10, and has a bonus 160 vertical lines.

Another option would have been to get a used HP ZR30w or Dell U30xx off of craigslist. They pop up all the time and can be had for anywhere from $200-300. They're great monitors. You can still get 30" ACDs also, but they run a little more.

I'm still using HP's previous model 30" monitor the LP3065 on one of my Max Pros. It's been a great monitor which I have owned from new & purchased at a great price with employee discount over ten years ago when I worked for HP.

Resurrecting thi thread in hopes someone can help me out.

Considering another ACD 30”. Currently own the late-2007 version of this display-- which is showing some troublesome signs of demise by not waking from any extended period of sleep. Would like to own the latest/last version, which would be 2010.

Could someone provide the model number for the 2010-version? Cannot seem to find it anywhere…

Much appreciated!

it appears this may no longer be a concern..."The modular workstation is expected to ship alongside an upcoming Apple-branded pro display, which rumors suggest will be 31.6 inches with a 6K resolution and have "outstanding picture quality" enabled through a new Mini LED-like backlighting design." I've only set aside money for the new MacPro. Looks like I'll have to dig a little bit deeper for the display.
