Replacing the hard drive

I am looking at replacing the HD on me 24” iMac from 500GB to 2 TB.

If I do this and duplicate the data from 1 drive to another should everything (Time Machine backups, apps etc) all works as they do now without any additional modification?

Thanks very much. I was concerned that the previous Time Machine backups would not be recognised but I may be getting that mixed up if you change the main board.

Well the drive was replaced and closed exactly and every function as planned. However as I thought Time Machine did a complete backup overwriting the existing backup. Now I only have backups from 1 day ago

That said the upgrade worked so I’m happy.
