Hi

Now that the new Mac Mini has HDMI i'm looking into replacing my TVIX (6500A) with a Mac Mini + PLEX.

My biggest concern is the audio playback. Almost all of my movies are 720p BR rips and my receiver shows that the audio is either DD or DTS. Is the new Mini capable of passing these audio streams to my receiver?

What is the advantage of replace TVIX 6500A with MAC mini? I could not see one

Sorry, i was at odd to see you abandon a perfect solution for 7.1 True_HD and DTS-HD and settle for 5.1

The answer is YES...
But you may have to reload the OS with surround sound receiver connected to MAC mini, in order the 5.1 sound work correctly
-Use VLC or PLEX to player HD video

I would use mini as a serer to server/stream BD.ISO, DVD.iSO, MKV... to M6500A

I'll have to add that the caveat is that I'm using optical digital to go into my receiver and HDMI into my TV, but yes playing back a video in Plex, my receiver will say dolby digital and DTS when appropriate.

I don't care about the 7.1 because i will never have a 7.1 setup :). And as far as i know, my TVIX (the M-6500 version) doesn't play True HD and DTS-HD :).

yes, the M6500A support DTS-HD and True_HD

You can change it at Setup Audio screen

The problem is you need a receiver supports this codec like late Onkyo and Denon...

My receiver is a Pioneer from last year, so no problems there :p

But since i don't have movies with DTS-HD or True HD (they are all high bitrate DTS or DD) i see no problems :D

Easy just rip a BD disc. You will hear the different of nigh and day from 5.1 to 7.1... You have everything already
