Looking to upgrade my RAM from the stock 12GB. I want to run six sticks since that seems to operate the fastest, and the best bang for buck looks like 6x4GB.

Where should I get the stuff and which brand? From all my searching, it looks like Crucial is being shipped from China via Newegg, and all the stuff on Amazon is brands I’ve never heard of. I’m not too interested in shelling out for super high end stuff like Corsair, but I don’t want garbage.

Have you tried directly from Crucial.

edit: just looked on Crucial and only ssd’s show up for 2010 mp as upgrade options......!

Actually yes, my last memory purchase was from Mr Memory, 4 years ago.... 👍

If you want to run triple channel, why not get 3x8gb then you can add to it later.
You will have to remove your 6 sticks in order to double ram later.

Oooo so I can still get those nice triple channel speeds that way?? I don’t have to fill six slots with my dual CPU setup then? I can just use three in one bank and leave the other empty?

^^^^No, for triple channel operation in a 2010, 2012 cMP 5,1 you need six matching dimms.

Oops sorry.
I only have a single cpu machine, didn’t realise that.... 😬

I'd love to go big and get 48GB, but that's expensive and probably unnecessary since I technically haven't even exceeded the limitations of my current 12GB (except for maybe in a few games).

That may be the case, but is your mac using swap files?
If you have more ram it will use it, and feel speedier.
