Request for testing 3D Slicer on Apple Silicon Mac

Hi all !

I'm about to buy a Mac mini M1. I work in medical imaging.

I use 3D Slicer for viewing medical images. This is an old, archaic application coded in OpenGL and using old technologies, very far from using Metal API.

I'd like to know before pulling the trigger if this software can render a Nifty Image (brain MRI image). I've attached a sample, free, Nifti file for testing.

Would anyone currently having any M1 Mac be able to test this for me ? Simply download 3D Slicer and drag'n'drop the attached Nifty image once unzipped to see if the image renders and if it actually works. That would be very helpful. I know the rest of my softwares will work fine through Rosetta (PyCharm, SourceTree, StarUML, etc...)

It works fine after you give it permission to install in security center. It won't install without permission as it's from a unknown developer. It was very fluid as you can see from the video. The M1 is amazing. I'm selling my intel i7 mini as this one just blows the doors off the intel.

Hello,

I'm considering to buy a Mac Air M1 and I also use 3D Slicer for my medical imaging research. But I'm a bit worry whether I can use all functions in 3D Slicer with the M1.

How is your experience using 3D Slicer on your M1 so far? I would love to hear it.
