well i know ill make $200-$300 profit off the wifi-3G model in Pakistan. I talked to my cousin there and thats what he told me so i might buy a couple and sell them there.
Why can't anybody buy anything because it's something they want? If your only concern is the resale value, then the product is really something you don't want and maybe you shouldn't buy it.
When I buy something, I'm not concerned what it's going to sell for a year or two down the line, in fact at the time of purchase, I'm not even planning on selling it. When it comes time to replace it and I think someone will buy it I might put it up for sale, or I just might give it away.

I'm glad you have that luxury, think about the people who don't before you run on next time.
In terms of resale value, I expect first gen iPad users to take a pretty big hit. I think we'll see faster processors, more ram therefore apps will come out that won't run on gen 1. I think we'll see a front facing camera and god knows what else. I think us early adopters will take a pretty hefty hit.
I don't think having a 3G model will fetch any more money, but I do think that in terms of resale it'll be much easier to sell with it.

actually im not worry about the resale value, ill just hand it to my sister when im ready to get rid of it.
I own the iPad because I want one and I fully intend on selling it as soon as I think I can deal without having one until the 2nd gen. So I'll sell around Xmas next year and wait it out. It's patience and thinking about my financial future that makes me think about resale before i even swipe my debit card. Smart shopping in my opinion...

Resale value? I suppose that I'm one of the few people that still buys things with the intention of being happy with it for several years. By the time I consider selling mine, it'll probably be worth a couple dozen dollars at best, and that's how I'd want it. I paid good money for this thing, dagnabbit, and I'm gonna use it forever!

Don't act like such a jerk...He can do whatever he wants with something he bought himself. Why should he "think about people who don't"? Take your moral high horse somewhere else.
Also- I doubt we'll take a big hit. Alot of the people interested in iPads are normal consumers who just want it for the "coolness" factor and so they can do stuff like- eBooks, internet, videos, some apps. i doubt too many consumers will care about the fast processor. In fact, I'm sure I'll be able to sell the iPad 3g+wifi 32 GB for 500 dollars at least . That's 30% less, yes, but still pretty good. Might even get 600, if it's in good condition. The fact that it costs the same that the wifi version cost except it'd have 3G would make it a pretty "good deal" in the eyes of someone a bit more illiterate.

I would guess that they will drop the 16GB and make the 32GB the $499 entry level model. So you lose $100 from that plus probably another hundred for it being old.
Now if Apple drops the entry level price due to competition (say 16GB at $299) then you will take a bigger hit.

I have read the posts and I've also read many many many posts where the only concern seems to be the resale value of the iPad. I don't buy things with the idea of how much I can get for it when and if I decide to replace or get rid of it. When I buy something, regardless of what the item is, I buy it with the intention of being happy with it and using it for a long time.
When it does come time to REPLACE or dispose of the item, it's usually just worth a few dollars at best. At that time I will pas it on to another family member that wants it or donate the items to the local school, or some other worthy charity that might be able to use it.
In other words I am buying the item for ME, not with the idea of making a profit off it, or wondering how much money I can recoup in the future. If that was my main concern, then it's not something I need to own since the idea of getting rid of it is already there.
When my iPhone 3G gets replaced this summer it will probably be given to a family member or donated to a worthy charity.
Go back and re-read my post and check who I quoted. I was slamming the guy that went off on the OP, not the OP himself. Slamming someone for wondering about resale value on a forum in which most people like the latest and greatest is mind boggling. If you always upgrade to the latest version, why would you not sell the older version.
Not everyone is so well off as you apparently are where they can just give away 1 year old tech.
If anything, it usually proves the case with Apple products to skip a generation. iPhone, skip 3G, go 3GS. Though I did it a bit different, iPhone, sell iPhone for 3G price, buy 3G at no loss, skip 3GS, plan to get 3GSX/4G/iPhone HD or whatever it is called this summer. Same with iPad. Get generation 1, skip next year, get a new one on the 3rd iteration, sell or give my son and/or wife the old one.
Never said I was well off, or that I would give away 1 year old tech. As it is I worked every single day for two months straight just to buy an iPad. When I buy something, I buy it for me and I buy it to keep. I don't make purchasing decisions with the idea of how much I can get for it down the road. Down the road, when it does come time to replace or get rid of something, I usuallly feel the item is worthless, since it is to me by that time. I don't feel right selling something to someone that is years behind what is available today.
I don't know, maybe it's the generation I grew up in, you bought things because you wanted them, not because you wanted to be a consignment shop so you can sell it down the road.
OK, speaking as a person who passed on the iPad, I would pay no more than $200 for the 32GB model used. I passed because, for me, the value of the device is minimal and at a $600 entry point, it just wasn't there for me.

and to the guy about selling to Pakistan, I wouldn't recommend that, Pakistani's get very upset if they even *think* they have been ripped off, trust me, my buddy sold his oakleys to a Pakistani for $15 more than they were new and the guy came back about 3 days later and was threatening to kill him... well hell, maybe it's a universal thing? How about you just let them buy it themselves and get ripped off by a large company or a corporation, so you don't die?
