Hi all :)

I'm getting a fair amount of freelance work recently and hope it will only build in the future.

I currently have a small hosting package with Streamline.net (which I have since heard bad things about) which I use as a test server, then register separate hosting and domains for clients upon approval. My current hosting package has limited capabilities (no MySQL for example) so limits what I can actually set up and test.

I am looking into reseller packages so that I can offer full service to clients. I don't particularly want to become a hosting company... Just be able to capably offer hosting for my clients (to host the sites I design for them) - keeping all the business with me.

I don't think a dedicated server is right for me as I am relatively inexperienced.

I am therefore looking into reseller packages on the internet and considering the following two:

Streamline.net
Heart Internet

Whilst Streamline are obviously cheaper (£159.98 for 2 years), I have seen bad reviews.

Heart I have heard quite good things about, but is a bit pricey (£299.99 per year - twice as much for half the time). Good reputation & best rating on uk.tophosts

I'm thinking you get what you pay for, so the more expensive, respectable, company would be best...

Can anyone offer me any advice on the matter? Opinions of the companies?

Alternatively, can anyone suggest alternatives?

Thanks for reading, and for any help!

Cheers,

Doug

I use 'em, they offer complete solutions both VPS and dedicated with extreme reliability, fantastic tech support, and reseller setup which is what you can virtuallly host your clients. I even setup my own DNS, the security tweaks are sensible, updates/backup are automated and frequent, fair share technology so bandwidth and server resources are distributed evenly. Excellent control panels for your client, easy to use GUI for you to manage it all (Web Host Manager) and get a quality LAMP setup with CentOS (Linux) for reliability and ease of setup, full root access with reboot capability, easy to setup digital certificates, Exim for mail, spamassassin, clamd for virus, mail listservs, many choices for stats, tons of built in software, custom package setup for your clients so you determine what they can access or not. Just to name a few of the benefits. They have different plans depending on your bandwidth and disk usage needs.

My suggestion based on direct experience and lot of shopping around first, this is by no means the cheapest - it's one of the best in terms of uptime, support and quality of their servers. This is a professional high end solution.

Have you checked out UK2.net

They just purchased the hosting/reseller that I use in the US, Midphase.com/Autica.com. I have had no problem with the US counterparts. And would guess that they aren't that bad as well. It is pricy like the other, but I can say since the merger/purchase they still have been on par with support. Normally receive help on a help ticket in an hour or so.

Thanks for your suggestions guys!

liquidweb looks good, but it may be overkill for the moment & I would prefer to deal with someone in the UK so that I can call them if needed.

UK2.net looks good... the only thing is, their own website seems really slow and I can't seem to sign up for the free trial. It puts me off a little - can't even keep their own website running smoothly? I'm sure it's only temporary though.

I'm still drawn to heart internet mainly because I can pay yearly. I would rather not have to worry each month about the money coming out, but instead prepare for a yearly clump.

Any further comments/suggestions welcome!

No one else here had dealings with heart?

Cheers

not a reseller plan as such but would allow you to host mutiple sites, (it is my own company so hope i'm not breaking any rules?)

www.mojointernet.com

plus if needed i could create a custom package for you

I have had luck with surpass hosting and their reseller hosting plan.
The only thing they don't have is phone support with shared hosting they only will provide it with a dedi box.

another bump for them.

they do provide help desk support; which is great & fast.

been with them since 2005 no issues really.

Thanks to all who have contributed!

surpass hosting looks good, but again, I think I'd rather use a UK based company and pay in £.

I'll definitely keep you in mind...

But I'm continuing my re/search at the mo.

I'm waiting for a client to settle an account before I invest in the hosting solution.

Any further contributions always welcome, and thanks again to those who have already helped :)
