Reselling question...

I've been reading most of threads here and haven't seen this question yet...

What happens when 2.0 is released and I want to sell my 1.0 iPhone?

When I get a new phone I always put my old one up on eBay. From what I've read once you activate your iPhone through iTunes the phone is locked to the SIM for good.

I'm really surprised that Apple would limit this amazing product to only AT&T customers (they must have really got a sweet heart deal).

I've thought about this too... We'll have to wait and see. Worst case, you need to break your contract and buy another phone, they'll activate that phone and deactivate the current one. Best case, they'll do the same, but not charge you to get out of your contract. It would seem logical for ATT to offer month-to-month service on an old iPhone. Lets hope so that our phones retain some value. Probably will have to cross that bridge when it comes.

Two things to keep in mind, since Apple is accounting iPhone sales over 24 months, and that it gets kick backs on the service, it seems they would want to hold you to your contract, but who knows.

Another thing to consider, it's probably unlikely there will be an iPhone 2.0 anytime soon. Year+ probably. That's not to say there won't be another iPhone, but not one to replace this phone. Based on history and all the details, I expect Apple to come out with an iPhone "mini" early next year, then a replacement for the current phone a year later. As long as Apple remains competitive against other phones through software and revision bumps, there's little motive to do a product refresh anytime soon.
