I bought a (new to me but) used 1st gen. 8 GB iphone yesterday. No sim card.
I'm not interested to use it as a phone now and everything worked fine on my wifi network. Difficulty was that the previous owner had left loads of pics, messages, contacts, etc. of his on the iphone.
Looking for an efficient way to start fresh I went to Settings, General, Reset and chose 'Erase All Content and Settings'.
That seems to have done more than I expected since now when I turn the iphone on all I can get is a screen that says, "No SIM card installed. Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone."
It apparently was activated before and continued activated after the previous owner removed his SIM.
How can I get back to where I was with an activated iPhone w/o SIM?
Thanks,
jim
