iPhone reset root passwd in ios6.2

ifile is from cydia. I was under the impression your iPhone was jailbroken?
Hmm, now that you mention it, if you restore from backup, it'll restore the root password. So that means you would have to start anew after the restore
Yes, ifile in cydia and the AppStore is WAY different.
Apps in cydia and apps in AppStore are completely separate things. The functionality you get is big

Seeing how it seems like you SSH since you changed your root password, how did you happen to just forget it?
If you just want to keep your texts, you can fix this manually
Use a program like ifunbox and connect it to your iPhone and backup the folder "SMS"
It's located in /var/mobile/Library
When you restore, jailbreak your iPhone
Go to /var/mobile/Library and delete the SMS folder there. Copy the SMS folder you just backed up into that directory. Then REBOOT your iPhone and your text messages will be restored onto your phone
If its picture, it's best to just back that up to your computer. Another alternative is to email the pictures to yourself and then click "save to camera roll" to put the pictures back onto your phone
Contacts, you can back up to iCloud
Your root password should be back to the default one. I would recommend writing it down somewhere if you change it and are prone to forget them

Once ios 6.1.3 comes out, you're stuck with not being able to access your root password since you can't restore to a jailbreakable version (unless there's a way to reset it that I don't know of)

When ever i have restored from a backup the passwords are always default "alpine" so i think you will be fine if you can't fix it use the link at the top of the post

you're talking about the itunes backup restore button, right?
If for some reason or other you need to restore after 6.1.3 is released (bad tweak or you really want to gain root access again) you can only restore to 6.1.3 which will not be jailbreakable.
As it is a root password it will not be in a itunes backup, that only contains settings, txt, pics, music, etc.
A firmware restore followed by a restore of your local itunes backup file will give you back your default alpine password.
So best thing to do is firmware restore to 6.1.2 and then restore your itunes backup before 6.1.3 rolls-out.
but i take that evasion will in due time come up with another version for 6.1.3?

I doubt we'll see a quick release for 6.1.3 most people are on 6.x and jailbroken and will stay there. The Devs won't waste a set of exploit on a small update as 6.1.3. They'll wait for iOS 7
Firmware restore is done in iTunes main screen.
The regular itunes backup which itunes makes automatically when connecting does contain wlan and email settings, it also contains the plist or settings files for your jailbreak tweaks/apps, not the JB apps itself, just the settings

Also if you do want to restore the firmware, do some reading up on DFU-restore, DFU-mode and recovery mode, it sounds like you are not that well established in the basics, it can save you a lot of hassle.

That's great. Did you restore and restore from backup? Fortunately, you were able to do this as iOS 6.1.3 just got released 2 days ago.

the update would seem to work over itunes however.

Don't update to 6.1.3. You will lose your jailbreak. And they are most likely not. It's extremely hard to find any loopholes in to OS to jailbreak it so I'm sure they're going to wait until iOS 7 since 6.1.3 provides absolutely nothing big and not worth the trouble of burning their exploits
only thing I could find speaking for the update would be the lockscreen bugfix. but then again, there seems to be already another hole found
