Hi,

I have a 2010 Mac Pro that has begun giving me a blue screen on some boots, so, thinking it may be due to something corrupt on the hard drive, I would like to reset. I don't have the discs anymore for the machine, so i've obtained the snow leopard 10.6.3 disc from the apple store.

Anyways, when I attempt to boot from the disc or even a dump i made and put on a flash drive, it is getting hung up on the gray apple logo screen (with no scroll wheel on the bottom). I have used this method to reset the mac in the past, but now i'm just baffled at what is the problem.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to reset the mac and get it to boot from the snow leopard disc, It would be MUCH appreciated!

sorry, I should be more clear, on some boots, it will take a long time with the spinning on the apple screen, and then it will go blue and be stuck forever until a hard reset. This never used to happen, and my research suggests it may be due to corrupt files on the hard drive, so now i wish to reset the mac pro, but cannot, and therein lies my problem.

2010 won't boot with anything under 10.6.4

aww nuts, so i'm assuming there is nothing I can do with the snow leopard 10.6.3 disc then, even if i dumped a dmg of it to my mac, I can't incorporate the update into it somehow can I?

Just a thought: Have you tried zapping the Pram? alt-cmd-p-r on power up, hold until you get the chime and it reboots.

I don't think so. If I were you, I would get a copy of a higher version install disc by torrent downloads. It's not illegal if you purchased a copy already.

The reason you can't boot is because drivers for 5770 / 5870 cards did not come until 10.6.4 (or 10.6.3 + Graphics Update)

You would probably get a higher version install disk if you asked at the apple store too.

go to the store with you osx copy and a printout of this entire thread. I think like cindori they would give you a 10.6.4 dvd
