AppleToolBox site has a piece titled: How To Reset Your Mac Password From The Terminal

If you reset your admin password this way does this have any effect on your Keychain password?

Several of the seniors I help have very weak admin passwords and want to change them but I recall reading somewhere that if one did so, one would not be able to open one's Keychain.app and get access to passwords saved there.

If such is the case, would the old password still work with Keychain.app?

Does anyone know if this is true? Anyone ever change their admin password?

Many thanks

Why not just change the password the proper way, in the Users and Groups System Preference? Changing the password there will change the Keychain password as well, automatically.
The password reset process you linked would be something to consider using if the user doesn't know their password (and it still may not work.)

When you change the password using standard psswd Unix command, it says the following:

I hope you now know what to do.

Thanks so much for a quick and clear reply!
Again, the preferred way to change the password is to just do it in System Preferences. Is there a reason you wouldn't use that? I'd also consider whether these users will actually remember a new password, and consider how much risk they actually have by having a weak password. If they're living at home and the computer doesn't leave the house, there's not much to gain by making a stronger password.
