A few years ago, I remember getting burned by a thrift shop after purchasing an iOS device that asked for a PIN. I could not wipe this through iTunes, and after checking for sources and with Apple on it, I had been instructed that I had no choice but to contact the original owner, or find some original proof of purchase and bring the item into an Apple Store. A past search shows a LOT of people got sold bricked devices this way.
Apparently, this change was made in order to prevent thieves from just wiping the iOS on a stolen device.
Well, low & behind, I see the SAME thrift store STILL selling Apple devices that are displayed with a PIN request popping up on the screen.
I was told by a store member that I could just take it to an Apple Store and they'd be able to reset this for me.
I have to stop here and question, is this yet ANOTHER new change Apple did? Did they go back to allowing used devices (by a different owner) to be reset? Could I just connect it to iTunes and wipe the system, or is this wishful thinking.
Also, does anyone know if you can do this with the OLD devices, like iPad2, or is it only new devices now that you can reset passcodes by previous owners.
I don't want to get burned yet AGAIN.
Thanks
