Resetting SMC - any risks or drawbacks?

No big effects, neither positive nor negative.

Was probably too cautious.

If this helps, these are Apple's reasons for resetting the SMC:

The only disadvantage is it might clear some preferences, but there's nothing "critical" in doing so.
