Hi all,

Trying to fix a 'dead' mac mini, i have no idea whats been done to it before it came into my hands but basically i wanted to know what happens if the SMC chip is 'crashed' and how it can be recovered.

Ive also read that the SMC switch is easliy damaged if its been pressed with metal. now im guessing it has been pressed with metal as its shiney silver where is been scratched. If i remove this switch and replace it, could this help me 'reset' the SMC?

i have removed the battery over night and checked its voltage and it seems okay from that point of view. i only have the wi-fi keyboard and mouse from my iMac but will an old iMac g3 keyboard allow me to try other methods of SMC reset?

If anyone can offer any assistance, i would MUCH appreciate your help :)

I have maybe the same Problem.

I can boot in to my mini only when holding the on/off Button and then connect the Powercable, hold on/off button pressed about 5 sec.
Then ones more press on/off then my mac is starting up.

so you get it to start by holding the button for 5 seconds and then plugging the cord into the back?

maybe we can help each other

ahhh i read your post earlier. you might want to take the top off your mini and press the reset button at the side of the motherboard, but press it with a nylon or wooden stick as apposed to a screwdriver head as that is what could be causing me issues.

Apple tell you to press it only once with the power disconnected. i didnt do that unfortunatly and i might have broke mine.
