I have been saying for some time now that I will not be an early adopter, and will wait for rev. B of the iPhone (hopefully with 8/16GB models, and fixes to any early bugs) before I get one. I have a contract that runs out in March next year and an expensive phone now (that I do really like, Nokia 8801) that I am going to try to get more out of before replacing. But the iPhone looks just awesome. The whole touchscreen cover flow flip the album over google maps flip through pictures internet etc things about it are crazy kewl and I can see why people are chomping at the bit to get one.

However, I have been waiting for new iMacs/new Mac Pros/a new other desktop Mac to upgrade and have once already fallen victim to the well there's no new Mac so I bought an Apple TV week one it was out problem. That got me hey 2 months later here's a 160GB model for $100 more would have bought that bite in the arse.

With my B-Day coming up three days after the iPhone release, it would be real easy for me to get that as a gift and spend the $200 on a contract buy out. But I know new Macs are coming and need to find some way to hold out for those instead which will hopefully quell some of the urge to have an iPhone right away. If I only had a new Mac, I wouldn't be drooling on the phone. And yes I know many of you will say, but the iPhone is a new ultra mini Mac. Get that and wait on the other.

eh, its pointless waiting for the next thing, because once they release rev. b, rev. c will be out in a few months... you might as well buy it now, because you cannot avoid the products you buy being updated.. especially with apple...

Remember the MacBooks, all the problems they had. That's my worry. That and I have a really nice phone that cost $800 and have had for 20 months, another 9 might help me get more of my money's worth out of it, and keep my wife off my back. That and if the iPhone has issues, she will be all over me, you just had to get that, and it doesn't work right, you spend all the time on tech support, etc. Not to mention family plan means switching her to a new phone as well.

You make many good points using quite a bit of logic regarding purchasing the iPhone.
The flaw that I see is that spending $600 on a cell phone is totally illogical. It is bought out of desire which is an emotion, and I for one who works in network administration, being as logical as one can get, cannot help myself spending the $600 and not looking back. It is a really cool phone. It will have a warranty, if needed. Apple will stand behind their product. I fear nothing in making this purchase.

I was one of the few people apparently that has had 0 problems with my macbook, and i got it as soon as it came out. Had I had bad experiences with that i might be a bit more skeptical to get the iPhone at its first release. but i'm gonna go for it and hope i get lucky again.
