Resolution Weirdness

All of a sudden my 24" iMac has adopted a start-up screen resolution of 800x600 (or something). The grey Apple is double its usual size, and when I do an fsck routine, the print is huge. When it gets to the desktop, the resolution is normal. What in hell is going on here?

you could try resetting the PRAM.

Yeah, that sorted it, but I'd love to know why it happened...

Do you wear glasses? Maybe they slid down your forehead and you didn't realise. Ok, not funny.

Do you have any other display hooked up to it? I've noticed that sometimes when plugging in the monitor to my Powerbook, the resolution changes but then goes back to normal.

Not sure.
