The title says it all. I downloaded iOS5 for my phone at 10 am this morning, only took 10 min. This afternoon, it's taking an estimated time of 40+ hours to download for the wife.

Our phones are synced to two different computers, but have the same apple ID. Is there a way to update her phone to iOS5 with the file on my MBP?

If you have the same exact iPhone, iTunes should use the iOS 5 file you downloaded on your computer if you update your wife's phone on that computer. iTunes will still have to verify the files and activate the iPhone via the iTunes servers, so it may take some time since the servers are getting slammed.

If you have the same phone, but want her to update on her own computer ... you can copy the iOS 5 .ipsw from your computer to a USB drive and put it on her computer. When in iTunes, you will have to press SHIFT + Restore so you get a dialog box to tell iTunes which .ipsw to use for the update.

PS: the .IPSW files are located in /YOURUSERNAME/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates in Mac OS X. Not too sure about where they are in Windows.

Hope this helps.

Yep. It'll work great. Same phone will update with the same software. No need to redownload.
