Hey everyone,

Just bought a 2019 15” MBP. Came with Mojave and updated to Catalina. I’m able to resize the Finder window but it always reverts back after reboot. Tried all kinds of different solutions from the web but nothing works. I was able to resize on my 2011 MBP and it stayed after reboot, so not sure what changed. Anyone have this issue or know of another solution?

The size of which folder/disk? The boot disk on Catalina is read-only. But others folder/disk size are saved correctly.

I have the options in Finder set to open a new windows under Mac HD. You’re saying that when I open a new window and it opens to that location, the windows size will not be remembered...but if I do a different location, it will?

on the land line mr. smith.
Working fine for me, up to date 10.15.5: When I select a Finder window and resize it, and close it, the pref works. When I open a new Finder window (Command + N), it opens the same as the last one I closed.

Finder preferences are invisible .plist files. If one is misbehaving, you can delete it and a new default file will be generated.

Once I set the size it’s sticks. It’s after a reboot when it resets. Are your windows still the same size after a reboot?

Folders "retain" their size settings, so if you set the size of a NEW window, all new windows should open at that size. But old folder windows will open at the last size they were opened.

You can work around this silly situation by using the FREE FinderMinder utility. It not only allows you to set a custom size for ALL windows when they open, but the position on the screen as well.

Click the "Hide" button at startup and you won't see it in the Dock or Menubar at all... it just runs in the background.

Thanks for the responses. I actually downgraded back to 10.14.6 since 10.15 was a bit of a mess. I did download the app and works great. Thanks for your input everyone.
