Hi

I formatted a new harddrive to APFS but now there no option to return back to journal. Does anyone know how to do that there no other option available. Ive bought a new harddrive to replace my optical drive in my macbook pro to seperate my os and my data.

im now ready to put the new harrdive in and then follow steps to redirect all my folders

How familiar are you with using the Terminal?

This is the syntax for the disk utility command that formats the drive
Usage: diskutil eraseDisk format name [APM[Format]|MBR[Format]|GPT[Format]]

MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode

Im not very familar with terminal if im honest im ok if ive got a step by step or screenshots to guide be but i wouldnt use it without them as i end up doing something stupid lol

Which OS is the Macbook running?

If you have a Sierra or El Capitan USB installer, you can boot the Macbook with either USB installer, enter disk utility, and format the new drive back to HFS.

In Disk Utility, go to the View menu, and choose "Show All Devices"
Your "untitled" volume should then show the device (showing the manufacturer's info).
Choose THAT line, then erase should show your other choices for format.

Sadly I’ve done that wipe it clean but they are the only formats available to me.

Try Disk Utility again.
Choose the device, then Erase.
Change the "Scheme" to "GUID Partition Map" - THEN you will see the other Format choices, such as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
(hint: If you don't see the Scheme dropdown on the Erase dialog window, then you don't have the device selected )

Doesnt work i tried that still this is what you get when you select that drive and press erase

STILL not showing all devices....
See that "View" icon in the top left corner of your Disk Utility window?
Click that, and change it to "Show All Devices"
Now it will work...

PS. I'd like to just say sorry that I never got back to you after asking about your comfort with the Terminal. I would like to also have assisted but I got busy. Glad you got it all sorted, avoiding the Terminal though

Always a bonus avoiding terminal lol. I’ve copied my ssd and put everything on my larger ssd. And switch the user account my ssd. So everything working like it should have.
