Wanted to upgrade my Mac Pro 5,1 mid-2012 single socket cpu. The heatsink screws wouldn’t come off the daughter board and I’m afraid I damaged some capacitors trying. Got a new tray sellers says working from another 2012. I put the tray in my 5,1 with a single 8gb stick and the W3565 it came with.

Turns on single red led flashes then off no LEDs on after that. No chime, no video.

Replaced CPU with W3690. No difference.

Is the tray broken? Am I doing something wrong?

Single socket replacement tray was broken, got another tray and that fixed the problem. Dual socket tray was also broken with many bent pins that took my B CPU out. New dual socket tray, new pair of X5690's and now the dual socket Mac Pro is back in operation too.
