My cMP is often experiencing a KP and then restarting itself whenever it goes to sleep unattended. If I sleep it manually it sleeps. Strangely enough its also the only time it successfully 'warm' boots with latebloom! If I restart manually it will almost always fail to boot and must be shutdown. No I havent - do you mean the little button battery? Is there a way to see its setting or rather just go ahead and replace it? If I can find one I think I will go ahead and try replacing it. Thanks

BR2032 between slots 3 and 2.

No, you have to use a voltmeter/multimeter.

Replace with the correct one, BR2032, or you will have to replace it again ~6 months later.

OK I just bought one but only one I could find is labelled DL/CR in tiny type. Guess that the wrong one. Didn't have my reading glasses so only saw the 2032 number (which is in huge type). Not sure where one would get a BR version here. Googling justs finds the same Duracell battery as the one I have. Energizer brand also says CR2032

Thanks Alex, had to go with the CR version, no-one around has ever heard of anything different, even the company that services Macs. But so far haven't had any problems with KPs or sleeps that become shutdowns since.

I bought the BR2032 recently on Amazon for 6 USD. Have you tried Amazon? Those batteries are sold by specialty battery retailers., many of those sell in the Amazon marketplace.

Would that be in Europe maybe? I have used CR2032 until today because BR2032 is really hard to find in Finland. They are allmost nonexistent here.

Next time I open up any of my Macs which apply to, I will change the battery to BR2032. I just found a German eBay seller called akku-pow3r, which seems reliable and professional enough to NOT sell me CR instead of BR and just say that they are seemlesly interchangeable. Well they are, but still not the same as we know.

Can't say about the outcome yet, but later this month I'll get those and I'll find out.

Perhaps googling "Panasonic BR2032" will give you results in your location.
AFAIK it's the only manufactor that still produces this rare battery.

Yeah, no luck in google search. I am in South Africa. Even official Apple service agents do not have and pretty much noone even knows there's different types of the same number battery.

It's also rare here, Brazil, I usually buy it bulk when I have to get parts from Digikey USA.

Interesting, did not know these batteries were so difficult to find. The reseller I found on Amazon ended up being in my same city to my surprise, as shown in the envelope I got from them. And the battery was not packaged like CR come (sealed etc) but rather in a small ziploc type bag. So they must get them in bulk like Alexandre explains and just resell them. The battery I received is from Panasonic as @KeesMacPro explains, and it is made in Indonesia. I wonder if looking up somewhere in Asia for a reseller that can ship to South Africa is possible? Even if it costs double what I paid for it, maybe it is still better than buying a CR version every 6 months… you will end up paying more. Plus the hassle of changing the battery every 6 months or so.

Run AHT/ASD full test and check the error message.
Plus the hassle of changing the battery every 6 months or so.
Not just the hassle of frequent replacements, but a lot of people have broken the battery holder trying to replace it without the needed care.

Hi Alex. I dont really know how to do those tests. I have tried booting with D key, nothing. Option D the same. I have removed OpenCore completely then NVRAM 3x reset and tried booting with D again, nothing. Just boots into Mojave. If I make a USB disk with two partitions as per the AHTest DMG and select the "OS" disk then it will boot basically into a Recovery scenario which offers no test, only the usual stuff even though the UI is visibly older.
Now that I have removed opencore I can no longer can use the bootpicker so the only method available seems to be booting while holding D or optD. But that does not work.
Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks

Weird thing is if I select sleep from menu there's never a problem. But if it sleeps unattended it will end up shutting down

You need an AppleOEM GPU (or at least a GPU with Mac EFI support, if you ignore the GPU errors) to run ASD/AHT. Won't work with a PC unflashed one or without OC helping with the GPU GOP support.
